Compatibility:

WebSite X5 Evo and Pro

A website is a project that evolves over time and, to continue managing it effectively, it is useful to work with an updated version of WebSite X5. This way, you can benefit from the new features and improvements introduced in the software and continue developing your project with the latest tools.

If you created the website with an earlier version of WebSite X5, you do not have to start again from scratch: you can convert the project to the format used by the latest version and continue working on it normally.

The procedure varies slightly depending on the version the project was created with. After conversion, it is always good practice to check the result, especially when the new release introduces changes to the way some features are managed.

How to convert a project created with WebSite X5 16 or later

From version 16 onwards, all projects are saved in the same folder and are therefore automatically displayed on the Project Selection screen.

To update a project:

  • Start the latest version of WebSite X5.
  • On the Project Selection screen, locate the project created with the earlier version.
  • Select it and click Next.
  • WebSite X5 informs you that the project must be converted before it can be used with the current version.
  • Confirm to proceed with the conversion.

Once the process is complete, you can open the project normally and continue editing it.

How to convert a project created with WebSite X5 15 or earlier

For projects created with versions earlier than 16, you need to export and then import the project.

Proceed as follows:

  • In WebSite X5 14 or earlier, open the project you want to update.
  • Go to Step 5 - Export and select Export the Project.
  • Specify the destination folder. WebSite X5 creates a compressed .IWZIP file containing the project and the linked files.
  • Open WebSite X5 15.
  • In the Project Selection window, click Import and select the previously exported .IWZIP file.
  • When the import is complete, select the project from the list and click Next to proceed with the necessary changes.

The time needed for the import depends on the size of the project and the number of linked files. Subsequent openings, however, do not require any particular waiting time.

What happens to the original project?

When WebSite X5 converts a project, a copy is created in the format required by the new version, while the original project remains unchanged.

This way, you can continue to keep the previous version of the project even after completing the conversion.

After the update, however, it is advisable to open the different Pages and use Preview to check that the graphics, contents, and features are as expected.

Which projects can I convert with the current version of WebSite X5?

With the 2026 version of WebSite X5, you can automatically convert projects created with versions 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

As for the editions, a project created with a certain edition can be opened and edited with a later version of the same edition or with a more complete edition.

For example, a project created with Evo can be opened with a later version of Evo or with Pro.
