WebSite X5 Evo and Pro

The European Regulation 679/2016 aims at protecting natural persons' rights and personal data, and it states that if:

  • a website collects personal data (for instance: name, surname, e-mail etc.),
  • data aren't collected for strictly private ends,
  • third parties are involved, such as Facebook and Google,

it is necessary to create and make a Privacy Policy available, i.e. a document informing the website visitors about the way their personal data are collected and treated.

Because a missing Privacy Policy could lead to significant penalties for the website owner, aka Owner of the Treatment, it is better to prevent risks by complying with the regulation and its requirements.

A simple and safe way of creating a Privacy Policy for your website, even without being an expert in the field, is employing DP Check, a GDPR toolkit you can integrate on your WebSite X5 project by using the specific free Optional Object. You will just need to paste the URL you get with the DP Check Privacy generator in the dedicated field in order to get a complete, updated Privacy Policies available in different languages.

Generating the Privacy Policy with DP Check

In order to generate a Privacy Policy, you first need to create an account on DP Check.

  • Go to https://go.websitex5.com/dpcheck and register, so to use the service.
  • DP Check needs to collect some information in order to generate a Privacy Policy for you: answer the reported questions and apply the needed changes to the draft you get.
  • Once the document is ready, DP Check offers you different solutions to publish the policy on your website: we suggest you to click on the Publish button. In this way, your Privacy Policy will stay on the DP Check servers, and you can get the URL you need to report it on your website. You can alternatively download the policy on your PC, but in this case, each time you make some changes or updates, you will need to download and add the modified privacy on the project.

Integrating the Privacy Policy on your Website

Now that you got the necessary code, you can open your WebSite X5 project. In our example, we will create a specific page for the Privacy Policy, and we will then link it on the template footer.

  • Go to Step 3- Sitemap of WebSite X5 and add a new page for the Privacy Policy. You can set it as hidden by clicking on   for it not to be displayed on the menu.
  • Add the DP Check Object on the page.
  • Open the Object and paste the URL you got in the URL of the HTML FULL file provided by  DP Check field.
  • You now have to create a link leading to the Privacy Policy page. In order to add one in the template footer, you need to go to Step 2 - Template Settings> Template Content > Footer and use a Text Object to write "Privacy Policy"
  •  Select the text and click on to add a link: choose the action WebSite Page and select the Privacy Policy page in the following window.
  • Save and Preview the project to verify if the page can be correctly displayed and if the link you set on the template footer is working smoothly.

By registering to DP Check you can try the GDPR Toolkit for free. In order to generate a Privacy Policy for your website, you then need to choose the paid plan: enjoy the 31% discount off the annual price thanks to WebSite X5.
